Structure of a tour
A touristic tour of Old sewage clearing plant in Eco-technical museum is composed of several parts which are logically and spatially connected and visitors have an opportunity to go through all of them. During a visit, a historical way of sewage treatment technology in Prague will be shown. In the underground premises of Old sewage plant visitors will see a historical cleaning technology as well as steam engine for driving the whole plant.
A number of visitors is limited on 30 persons maximum (Tour A) and 15 persons maximum (Tour B) and last about 45 minutes. Both tours are guided. A visit is not barrier-free but possible for less physically fit visitors.
A tour starts in the Old Sewage plant hall of Eco-technical museum (Papírenská 6, 160 00 Praha 6).
Tour A
1st part – A underground water wheel crypt
A water wheel crypt
An underground water wheel crypt is a first place being seen during the tour. To this place sewage water was used to flow into the plant from one of three Prague sewers, in the past. It is based, approximately 5 meters below surface. Huge water wheel (6m diameter), placed in a crypt, was used to drive a ventilating propeller and aeration of vicious air from the underground by the means of one of chimneys.
During the tour, visitors will be informed about functions of plant, basic information on history considering project competition and realization itself will be provided. A tour and commentaries are focused as well on general information on Prague water net.
2nd tour part – Underground Sand Trap Hall
Sand Trap Hall
A sand tramp hall is placed in a monumental arched dome made from shaped bricks. To this place, located in the underground, three sewers brought out sewage and waste water from entire Prague at the time. Here, visitors will get to know first phases of rough dirtiness treatment of sewage water on rough racks and in sand trap.
During the tour, basic information on all phases of water treatment will be provided as well as the explanation of significance of racks, sand traps and machinery with telescopic boom used for grit and sand exhaustion. As part of the exhibition, authentic trolleys used for carrying rough waste to the elevator which are placed on rails are exposed.
3rd tour part:
Sludge pump engine room
Visitors will have a look to the authentic sludge pump engine room, where triplex sludge pumps are installed. During the tour, functionality of pumps used for sludge exhausting will be introduced.
4th tour part:
Main Hall
In the main hall, you will see an electro engine used for send pump drive placed in Sand trap hall. Undoubtedly, the hall is being dominated by sand and racking garners, latterly used as water tanks.
During this part of tour, the main significance of the hall will be introduced and the authentic sand garners usage will be presented.
5th part – Steam Engine Room and boiler-plant
Two operational Breitfeld & Daněk steam engines from 1903 can be seen in the Steam engine room. Those engines are unique for their Schmidt’s construction used for sewage technology driving, as well as flood pumps. Next to the steam engine room, there is a boiler plant with authentic flue-tube steam boilers Breitfield & Daněk . During the fifth part of the tour, all the functionalities will be introduced.
6th tour part – Sedimentation basins
Sedimentation basins
The final tour part introduces underground sedimentation basins batteries. They are 90 meters long and 6m wide, with an average depth 2,7 meters and total content 1200 m3. During this part, visitors are informed on the final procedure of sewage water treatment.
Structure of tour B
This tour B is based on tour A with some more extensions
Visitors, assisted by a guide, will have a unique opportunity to step down to 300 m long canalization to pursue a special sightseeing tour equipped by batteries. In underground sedimentation basins, visitors are assisted by a guide. At the end of the tour, visitors will be set up with a brochure about the museum.

3. Group 11 - 15 persons 3600 CZK
4. Students, pensioners and physically disabled 130 CZK
(pensioners above 70 years, holders of physically disabled person card, and children under 15 )
For the tour A, maximum number of visitors is 30, the minimum number is not fixed and group ticket price is set for whatever number of visitors less than 30. For the tour B, the maximum number of visitors is fixed on 15.
